An evening dedicated to diamonds is not hard to enjoy – especially when it includes dinner at The Connaught and a dazzling performance by Paloma Faith.

With a star-studded guest list – and Silvia Damiani, Sydney Ingle-Finch and Lucy Yeomans hosting the event – the fashion stakes were high. Elle Macpherson did the classic short LBD proud, Cat Deeley looked elegant in a long blue dress and boxer David Haye sparkled in front of the cameras, with some beautiful stud Damiani earrings. Mira Anafina who runs the Bond Street Damiani store also looked cool in a black Fendi jump suit. It was Paloma who stood out from the crowd, however, with her stunning singing voice, sparkly gold dress – with a sexy plunge neckline – and Chinese-inspired hat worn to one side.

I know all too well what a fabulous accessory can do for an outfit, and it was great to see diamond jewellery take centre stage. A girl’s best friend? Absolutely!

On Thursday you certainly didn’t have to be in the Big Apple to experience the perfect New York winter. In fact, as the theme for The Berkeley Square Ball 2009, you only had to go as far as Portman Square.

One of the highlights of the London social calendar, this night of Taittinger champagne, Nobu cocktails and dinner by Britain’s leading Italian chef Giorgio Locatelli – all in support of The Prince’s Trust – did not disappoint.

Thankfully, my table at dinner provided the perfect vantage point from which to soak up the style scene – and what a scene it was! Gwen Stefani arriving with her husband Gavin Rossdale took a rather alternative approach with a neon bra, see-through top, short tweed grey shorts and black opaque leggings – coupled with gladiator style statement heels and a black clutch. And David Haye brought a touch of boxer cool to proceedings wearing a relaxed black jeans and trainers outfit worn with a gold belt, black blazer and open white shirt.

But in the style stakes, the night belonged to Anna Friel. Arriving after a night treading the boards at London’s Theatre Royal, Anna looked stunning in a racy red number, which she wore with a red choker and beautiful brooch. A wonderful white fur, red manicure and delicate silver sandals just made her fitted dress all the more show-stopping! When she’s finished playing style icon Audrey Hepburn at the theatre she should think about becoming one herself!

Thanksgiving lunch

Having lived in New York for 3 years, I find it hard now to get through November without Thanksgiving. So, when invited to a London lunch hosted by Arnaud and Carla Bamberger and Charles and Sydney Finch, I jumped at the chance to join the celebrations.

The Bambergers and the Finches certainly know how to attract a stylish crowd. Elettra Rossellini – the face of Lancome – wore a fab pair of green tights with a short LBD showing of her long legs, models Astrid Munoz looked great in a mustard top (the perfect colour for her skin tone), while English rose Saffron Aldridge kept it simple and stunning in a white shirt. Hostess Sydney stole the show, however, with an elegant grey textured wool Prada dress.

Given I will be basking on a beach in the sun when most people are tucking into Christmas lunch this year, a three course lunch with turkey and all the trimmings was a welcome sight. Whoever said beautiful people don’t eat, though, obviously hasn’t been to a Thanksgiving event. I have never seen pecan pie disappear so fast and plates look so spotless!

The Didier Drogba Foundation Ball

Charity bashes don’t come much more star-studded than this. Looking every inch the football star – dressed in a black tux and a trendy skinny tie – Didier Drogba opened the doors of The Dorchester to a whole range of celebrities from both on and off the field to raise money for the building of a hospital in Ivory Coast.

Footballers Joe and Ashley Cole, John Terry, Claude Makelele and rugby star Danny Cipriani joined a whole host of stars to enjoy a night of live entertainment from The Brand New Heavies and JLS, great dancing (from none other than Akon who kept me on the dance floor all night) and auctioning of top prizes – including a style session with me!

This wasn’t just a night about sexy celeb spotting or short and edgy cocktail dresses – the fashionista style for the evening. Didier Drogba gave an emotional and passionate speech about the need for a new hospital in Abidjan, his home city, to help those suffering from Leukaemia. His story about a friend who died because he couldn’t travel to get treatment led to more than £500,000 being donated in support of the cause. Not bad for a night on the town.

Winter party to launch Somerset House ice rink

Joanne Black Style: Stella McCartney black polo, black and white cape and Daniela Besso merino wool and cashmere mix coat, with knee length Miu Miu black boots and YSL bag.

If you’re looking for a spot of cool ice rink fashion, look no further than Somerset House.

Everyone from Penny Lancaster and Trinny Woodall to Alexa Chung and Lily Cole – dressed in warm winter glamour – descended on Somerset House on Monday night to celebrate the start of the ice rink’s tenth anniversary season. Thandie Newton, who turned on the Tiffany tree, looked particularly fab in a feathered black hat with great red shoes and a cool red clutch.

Of course, less stylish were the moves on show at the newly iced rink. While designers Julien McDonald and Melissa Odabash took to the ice like professionals, I was left clinging to my friend Jonathan as I attempted to complete two laps. For a total beginner I think I was lucky my Daniela Besso coat didn’t have a rather icy encounter. Actually, I think I might be back later on in the season for a solo skate!
